Celebrate National “THANK YOU” month

Thank_you_001Did you know that January is national “Thank You” month?

-A full month dedicated to the words we remind our kids to use everyday, but the very same ones we tend to forget to use ourselves. So in this month of “starting new” and making resolutions, why not take our own “motherly advice” and make THANK YOU part of your daily routine.

We’ve come up with some simple ways to get started, ones you can do on your own, or even get the whole family involved as well!  (…AND don’t forget to share your ideas with us too!)

  • Spouses, children, parents, friends, siblings, teachers, mentors…make a list of all the people you feel grateful for and aim to thank one person each day, be it with a phone call or even a face-to-face visit.
  • In this digital age, where most communication is done via email and text, sit down, compose your thoughts, and hand write a THANK YOU note to someone.
  • Start a gratitude journal.  Everyday, write one thing (or more) of the things you are thankful for the most in your life.
  • Go outside of your comfort zone by saying THANK YOU to someone new – be it the mailman, the person who makes your coffee every morning, or even the person who holds a door open for you.
  • Turn saying THANK YOU it into a game for the whole family.  See who can remember to use the words the most for a full day (or even the month) - make a chart and reward the family member who does.
  • At the end of the week, take turns at the dinner table in sharing who or what you are thankful for.
  • From “Merci” to “Toda” – simply learn how to say THANK YOU in a different language.
