Things to Do on Long Island: 11/1 & 11/2


 Be sure to check out all of the great family, fun activities taking place this weekend on Long Island.


GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN:  Brooklyn BabyFest & Family Jam (12-4pm) Ok, so this one is not on Long Island, but if you or anyone you know is expecting, this 1-day expo is for you!  Offering parents an opportunity to create their registry, test drive the best baby products on the market, win amazing raffle prizes and get pampered. Brooklyn BabyFEST & Family Jam offers professional car installations on site, baby gear demos and experts as well as a relaxing place to play and shop.  Located at: Brooklyn Expo Center, 79 Franklin Street, Greenpoint. 

GARDEN CITY: Dia De Los Muertos at the Long Island Children’s Museum (2-4pm) Come learn about the customs of this Latin America holiday and remembrance, then create your own traditional sugar skull, for all ages!  Located at: 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City 

BALDWIN: Fall Festival at the Baldwin LIRR Station (10am-6pm) Festival will feature arts and crafts, antiques and food for sale among other merchandise. Come on down rain or shine. Located at: the Baldwin LIRR Station, Sunrise Highway and Grand Avenue, Baldwin (Festival will take place on Sunday too!)

MERRICK: Dora the Explorer at Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts (2-3pm) Take your little one to go see Dora, Boots, Map, Backpack, Diego and more as the come together to look for Dora’s lost teddy bear! Located at: 2222 Hewlett Avenue Merrick

SYOSSET: Charity Yard Sale to raise funds for The PURRfect Kitty Shelter (10am-5pm/Sunday too!) Indoor yard sale with rockbottom prices. All proceeds go to raise money for the shelter.  Located at: 235 Robbins Lane, Syosset

OAKDALE:  Family Adventures: Build a Better Tomorrow at Connetquot River State Park  Preserve (1:30-3pm) Create a bird feeder out of a plastic bottle. Bring 1 water bottle and please register in advance.  Geared for children ages 5 and up. Admission: $4, $3 for children ages 3-17, free children under 3; $8 parking fee register.  Located at: Connetquot River State Park Preserve in Oakdale

LAKE GROVE: TOUCH-A-TRUCK at SmithHaven Mall (11am-3pm) Come on down and view over 50 vehicles that will be on site for children to sit in, climb on and take photos with including Big Rigs, Fire and rescue Trucks, Police Vehicles and more! Event is being presented by WBAB and BLI. Admission is FREE, but people are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for Long Island Harvest. Located at: SmithHaven Mall 313 Smith Haven Mall, Lake Grove (*Rain Date: Sunday, 11/2)

HOLBROOK: Precious Lambs 2014 Fall Carnival  (12-3pm) Face Painting, shows, pumpkin decorating and lots more.  Come on out and join us.  Hosted by Precious Lambs, Parent Advisory Committee.  Raffles, Prizes and Giveaways.

RIVERHEADBats, Barnacles and Broomsticks at Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center. Join us for a celebration of Halloween aquarium style featuring children trick or treating throughout the Aquarium, a haunted house, face painting, craft, game stations, hay rides, pumpkins to paint, and more! Located at: 431 East Main Street, Riverhead

Also in RIVERHEAD  Edgar Allan Poe Festival (all weekend, 12-6pm) Family friendly spooky ghost stories, music, dance parties on the hour at Ralph’s Italian Ices, PLUS a little monster costume party! Located at: Main Street & Peconic Ave in Riverhead

MONTAUK: Hike and Seek at Camp Hero State Park at Camp Hero State Park.  Join a park Naturalist on this scavenger hunt hike.  While hiking, “seek” items from a list of local plants, animals, and other objects unique to this park.  The naturalist will give a brief explanation of each item as they are found. This hike is approximately 2 hours long & RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.  Call 631-668-2554 to reserve your spot.

SUNDAY, 11/2

ROSLYN HARBOR: Family Sundays at the Museum at Nassau County Museum of Art (1:30pm).  Plan the family’s weekend around a visit to the museum. Each Sunday Nassau County Museum of Art offers a family walk-through of the exhibition and supervised art activities for the whole family.

PORT JEFFERSON: Gorgeous Gobstoppers at the Maritime Explorium (1-5pm) Deconstruct candy to reveal the marvels of science, technology, engineering, art and math! Located at: Port Jeff Harbor, 101 East Broadway, Port Jefferson

RIVERHEAD: Eat, Drink and Be Scary at Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center (10am-2pm) Come have a family brunch at the aquarium and stay for the fun with the animals!  Located at: 431 East Main Street, Riverhead
