Nestled in the heart of Southdown, Huntington, is a brand new coffee establishment which serves up more than just a delicious cup of freshly roasted and brewed coffee. Southdown Coffee, which opened at the end of the summer, is owned and run by fourth generation Huntington resident, Mark Boccard. After working in the coffee industry in New York City, Boccard realized that Huntington was lacking a local coffee shop, and wanted to bring his knowledge of freshly roasted coffee to his hometown.
Upon walking into Southdown Coffee, the amazing aromas surround you, and you know you will be in for a real treat! The shop is decorated perfectly; with hints of vintage style, chalkboards, and wooden benches to relax on, you feel as though you stepped right into a little vacation spot. Southdown Coffee is a totally unique coffee drinking experience. Boccard prides himself on only carrying single origin coffees from around the world; further, as Boccard explained to the Long Island Mamas, that just as fruit and vegetables have seasons, so does coffee!
Therefore, the coffee at Southdown Coffee is seasonal, and always the freshest it can be. Speaking of fresh, the coffee beans are roasted in Brooklyn, which means you are getting the freshest possible coffee you could ask for!
Southdown Coffee got its start at the Huntington Farmer’s Market (you can now find Southdown Coffee at the Farmer’s Markets in Islip, Kings Park, Roslyn, Patchogue, and Riverhead), and made many connections with other local vendors. Boccard deliberately is choosing to sell and feature those other local vendors in his store, which is a true delight to see! You have your pick of pastries from Fiorello Dolce Bakery in Huntington or Blondies Bakeshop in Centerport, brownies from Brownie Fix (made in Huntington), Granola from Another Mother, locally made Greek yogurt, and you can even pick up some baby food from Eat Spoonfed, made in Huntington, as well.
Southdown Coffee also features delicious sandwiches, and has lines out the door on weekend mornings for their egg sandwiches. With its open setting and roomy tables, it’s a perfect place to wander in with a stroller or small children.
Want to try some of Southdown Coffee’s unique flavors? Stop in Fridays at 1PM for a tasting! Mark is usually behind the counter making coffee, so be sure to say hi and tell him the Long Island Mamas sent you!
