Recently, Patricia Bove, proprietor of The Long Island Cooking Café and Tea Room in Islip, took time to sit down with the Long Island Mamas Network.
At just over two years old, The Long Island Cooking Café and Tea Room is already becoming a well-loved part of the community. Located on a commercial section of East Main Street, the LI Cooking Café and Tea Room is right in the heart of Islip. Part tea house, part restaurant, part storefront for proprietor Patricia Bove’s catering business, the site is distinctly unique. The space, decorated in a warm, inviting, homey way, is a true family affair: Ms. Bove’s mother made the tablecloths, her father built the gorgeous wooden counter, and her daughter is a part-time employee; and just like most family gatherings, the focus is the food.
The menu offers something for everyone. Traditional favorites, like chicken pot pies, are juxtaposed next to quinoa pesto. Ms. Bove enjoys giving well-loved recipes a unique twist, like making her shephard’s pie with brisket, OR sometimes, creating something completely new like her banana lentil salad. The sheer number of options for paninis, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts are impressive.
If lunch isn’t enough to satisfy your appetite, stay for Afternoon High Tea. The tables are set with china teacups, real sugar cubes, and special strainers for renegade tea leaves. (The bulk of the teas are loose, though limited bagged teas are also available) Plus, an individual pot of tea, scones, finger sandwiches, and desserts complete the experience.
For those interested in entertaining at home, catering is also available, with the option of adding a food and wait staff. The Long Island Cooking Café and Tea Room itself can also be used to host smaller parties. There’s room for approximately 25 people on-site, and the space would suit any special event; cooking demonstrations make a unique bridal shower…why not teach the future Mrs. how to use her kitchenware gifts?
Other special events throughout the month range from Wild Game Dinners to Murder Mystery nights to the occasional visiting psychic are also part of the monthly repertoire. The calendar changes frequently, so be sure to check in often for upcoming events.
So be sure to stop by the The Long Island Cooking Cafe and Tea Room to say “HELLO” to the Bove Family, and tell them the Long Island Mamas sent you!
