A haven for parents and their young children has come to Huntington! The Sandbox Playspace opened recently just a block from Heckscher Park. The warm, inviting indoor playspace and party space is ideal for families with children ages birth to 5 years.

Owners Rob and Toni, parents of two young children, developed a serene atmosphere, decorated with soothing neutral colors with no blaring lights or ear-splitting music. The intimate, calming space is one where parents can always see and track their little ones. It is also conducive for connecting and meeting other parents of babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

Rob and Toni made it a priority to include natural, wood toys that encourage sensory stimulation and imaginative play. They wanted toys that kids would play with over and over again. The children attending the Open Play session we reviewed loved “making meals” in the kitchen, playing with the dollhouse, rolling wooden cars, sliding down the slide and taking a break in the cozy tee pee. Plenty of other toys engaged their imaginations, and smiles and laughter abounded.

The family-friendly environment is equipped with amenities to ease the day for parents with young children. Private breastfeeding and diaper changing rooms are bathed in soft lights and filled with cushy furniture. The room includes basics like a changing pad and wastebasket to dispose of diapers. The bathroom includes a potty seat and stool to help toddler and preschoolers feel comfortable just like at home.

To prevent the spread of germs, toys are cleaned throughout the day, every day, by the staff. BabyGanics Wipes are placed throughout the facility. Other amenities include free WiFi and an eating area in the lobby where snacks and drinks are also sold. Shoes are allowed in the lobby, but not in the play area so make sure kids come with socks.

A great perk of The Sandbox Playspace is that no time limit exists. Parents can come and go during the day or stay for the duration of the open hours if they wish. There is no drop off; parents must supervise their children. Discounts are offered for large groups, and the facility is available for rental on weekends for birthday parties (age 1 to 4 years), baby showers, baptism parties, fundraisers and field trips.
