Ways To Celebrate Mother’s Day on Long Island

Looking for ways to celebrate Mothers Day?  Here are some ideas that will be sure to please mom and the entire family whether staying home or going out and about in Long Island.

Brunch
Let mom have a day without cooking (or at least without cooking one meal!).  Take mom out to brunch at her favorite restaurant.  Jonathan’s Ristorante and BlonDees Bistro in Huntington, The Willow Creek Country Club in Mount Sinai, Danfords in Port Jefferson, along with many other restaurants offer Mothers Day Specials to make sure mom has a day to remember.  Be sure to make reservations!

Homemade Coupon Gifts
Kids can make personal and budget-friendly homemade coupon gifts for any moms in t he family (including grandma and aunts!). Draw coupons on a piece of paper, cut them out, and wrap them in a box or gift bag. Depending on the age of the child and her ability, coupons could be good for things like:

  • Breakfast in Bed
  • A Big Hug
  • Homemade Cookies
  • Washing Dishes
  • Folding Laundry
  • Helping make lunch (or dinner, etc.)
  • Clean room without complaining
  • Take a bath without complaining
  • Go to bed without complaining

Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center
Spend the day as a family at the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center in Riverhead.  Enjoy seeing all of the marine life and the butterfly exhibit and even catch a few shows.  If you go on Mothers Day, the aquarium is offering a special Mother’s Day Brunch at 10:30am and 12:30pm.
in the Sea Star Ballroom.  Be sure to call ahead for reservations.

Next head next door for the Mom Sleepover at the Hyatt Place East End & Resort Marina!

Take Mom to the Theater
Take Mom to a nearby theater to see a show for a few hours of fun entertainment. Check out the local theaters or even the movies. Catch a show or a flick and laugh as a family while mom gets the relaxation time she deserves. Some great theatres include the Smithtown Center, Theatre Three, or the Patchogue Theatre.

Visit the Wineries on the East End
Most wineries are now family friendly.  While the kids run and play in the fields, Mom and Dad can do some wine tasting.  Pindar Vineyards offers a family friendly atmosphere with the sunflower field and live music. Martha Clara Vineyards features a small petting zoo and animals.  Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards has a large picnic area with live music, kids can fly kites and play ball. While here be sure to check out Osprey’s Mothers Day gift basket. Yet another vineyard is the Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard where the kids can go on pony rides and see the rescue horses.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mom readers!
