At the Mamas Expo on May 5, parents and kids will not only have unprecedented, insider access to some of the best local services, entertainment, specialists and products available for families, but they will also have the opportunity to do hands-on activities. Expo Vendor The Noguchi Museum will be holding a unique, engaging activity to create a model playground.
Isamu Noguchi, a prominent Japanese-American artist and landscape architect who is the museum’s namesake, designed and actually realized several playgrounds. He was very interested in the idea of community and communal space. Since the Mamas Expo is targeted for the Queens community, The Noguchi Museum wanted to play on that idea by asking participants to collaboratively create an idea for a playground.
At the Mamas Expo, The Noguchi Museum will have a large piece of foam board that will act as the playground space and guests can then create something they would like to see in the playground using mixed media collage. There will be images of Noguchi’s playgrounds and playground models for inspiration. By the end of the day there will be a playground model designed. Participants will also have the opportunity to create something to take home with them.
