Easter Basket Alternatives Beyond Candy

Think of Easter baskets, and chocolates and other sweet treats likely come to mind. However many moms are appalled at the amount of candy, cookies, cake given to kids on a regular basis. For those looking for non-sugary options, we’ve listed Easter basket alternatives beyond candy.

Almost every holiday or celebration involves junk food and candy. Valentines Day entails chocolates and candy hearts, Christmas features candy canes, birthdays are usually celebrated with a piñata filled with candy along with cake and treat bags, and of course Halloween is the ultimate with an egregious amount of candy. With Easter coming up, stores are filled with chocolate bunnies, peeps, chocolate eggs, jelly beans. It feels as if Betty Crocker, Nestlé and Hershey have taken over.

When we really look into the ingredients in the “treats” we give our children, it can be eye opening and scary…..GMOs (genetically modified organisms), food dye, artificial flavors, aluminum, high fructose corn syrup and a host of other unnatural things are included. Many of these ingredients disrupt digestion, send blood sugar sky high and well, frankly makes their body sick. We do not need to rely on these companies to provide our precious families with holiday “fun.”

As parents we are the ones in control who make our own traditions with kids, so why not aim to give them healthful and meaningful “treats?” Instead of sitting around eating candy, kids can learn through play instead while making new memories with the family. Surely that is more fun then filling up bellies with “junk.” Below are ideas to place into Easter baskets besides sweet treats.
