Valentine’s Day Guide for Long Island

Roses and chocolates, oh my! Valentine’s Day is a day for families to show each other how much they care.  One way to do this is by getting out of the house and doing something fun as a family. Instead of picking up a generic heart shaped box of chocolates, head over to Candy Land Creations and fill a bag with some yummy sweets for your sweetheart. The kids (and you) will love picking from a huge array of chocolates and candies.

Visit your local library.  Find and read as many books as you can about Valentines Day.  If you are really ambitious and your kids are a little older, create a scavenger hunt ahead of time.  Go onto the library’s website and list some Valentine-related books. You can also include children’s books about love and science books about the heart. Kids will then have to check off all the ones they can find.

Long Island Children’s Museum
If you go at the right time of year, you may be able to participate in their Love Rocks and Happy Hearts craft activities.  Even if you can’t go at that time you will love all the displays and science fun.

Try to go for their Valentines day heart exhibit, which is featuring all kinds of information on how the heart works or go on you own and take your time learning all about the heart.

Head down to Plaster Kraze to create a fun Valentines craft. Pick a ceramic piece such a a heart or a MOM plaque, or choose a larger piece to work on as a family.
