Long Island Mamas is proud to present the first mom of the month in the new year. This month the title goes to Danielle Zanzarov of Holbrook, wife of Esiquio, mom of Marianna 6, Gio 4 and Evan 2, and owner of Get Naturally Healthy.
Danielle’s motivation for starting her business is very personal as it was influenced by her childhood. She grew up eating McDonald’s and Carvel once a week. She indulged in wonderful treats each holiday and spent plenty of time playing video games and watching after-school specials. As a child, Danielle often suffered from asthma and ear infection which led to much time spent in a doctor’s office. Everyone assumed nothing else could be done except for her to keep using inhalers and to avoid running which could aggravate symptoms.
When Danielle left for college, she stocked up on coffee, Twizzlers, macaroni and cheese and fruit snacks. Several months later, her health began to suffer; she had chronic sinus infections, gained 20 pounds and felt constant nausea and stomach pain. After a doctor’s visit, she walked out with a prescription which the doctor had stated she’d need to take for the rest of her life. This was the moment Danielle decided to change her life journey.
As a busy college student carrying a full time load of classes and four different jobs, Danielle did not have time for illnesses. She began to read, learn, explore and investigate health and nutrition. Little by little, she made small changes to her lifestyle and choices.
Fast forward to four years ago from today when Danielle decided to turn her interest in health and nutrition into a career. At a crossroads in her life, she had to make a choice between working a traditional job in the corporate world or instead turning her passion into a career that would help people to achieve their optimal health. Despite fear of the unknown, she decided to pursue the latter and created Get Naturally Healthy.
Since then Danielle has worked with people to improve their health and that of their families. She developed an internet community that has grown and benefited from one-on-one wellness consultations and large telesummits where people have the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s top experts.
In the last couple of years, the demand for her wellness consultations have grown, and so, too, has the need for a respected, group of professionals she could refer clients to. It became obvious to Danielle that there was a real need for a local wellness center — a place where people could visit to feel safe, accepted and be given the integrated health services found outside of the conventional health world. With partner Alyson Ryan, LCSW, CLC, Danielle opened South Bay Wellness Center in Sayville.
South Bay Wellness Center is now a place where all can come and have their wellness needs met. The facility provides an extraordinary network of professionals combining nutrition, natural health solutions, Quantum Reflex Analysis, mental health counseling, Reiki, hypnosis, massage, Rolfing®, doula services, childbirth and lactation education, fitness, life coaching, image consulting and much more all under one roof. In addition to all of the services offered, the center also provides a series of free community classes and events where all are welcomed to come in and learn about things that can benefit their wellness.
Danielle’s new business, South Bay Wellness opened its doors to clients on January 2, 2013. There she plans to grow an extraordinary network of practitioners and offer the very best services to the community. The goal is to have South Bay Wellness be Suffolk County’s premiere wellness center and become a home for people to meet all of their wellness needs.
In opening the center, Danielle has incorporated her own personal health experiences with a strong educational background. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Education from Columbia University, a MBA from NYU as well as a Masters in Education. In addition to receiving certifications from the American Association of Nutritional Consultants, the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and serving as a Certified Dr. Sears L.E.A.N Coach, Danielle is also a Certified Professional Coach and a level 3 trained practitioner of Quantum Reflex Analysis. Danielle is currently working on a PhD in Clinical Nutrition and Homeopathy. She believes that continual education and training is imperative to serving her clients.
Danielle told Long Island Mamas that balance in her life is a constant and continual work in progress. Between work, school, the kids, mommy duties and homeschooling, she strives to maintain a delicate balance. Most of her own administrative work and studies happen during the early morning when the kids are still asleep and in the evenings after they have gone to bed. During the day, her time is devoted to homeschooling and activities for the kids and basic household chores. She strives to work a part-time schedule in the office by working mostly evenings and weekends when her husband is home to help care for the kids.
When asked by Long Island mamas if Danielle had any advice for other busy moms, she said, “Our health is the most important thing there is. Without it, we literally don’t have the energy for all of the things moms need to get done. As a result, it is so important to be mindful of our health. Taking the extra time to prepare a healthy meal or to give our bodies a little rest pays tenfold in the end. My life is busy and fulfilling, and yet, I still need to remind myself to stop, breathe, and take some time to rest and reflect. This means that sometimes the house is not perfectly clean, I must put off starting a new program or I must recognize that not everything can be perfect. The important things in life — my family and helping others — are the forefront of things that matter most. When I start to feel overwhelmed or like my balance is amiss, I ask myself, ‘If this were the last day of my life, how would I live it?’ The answer usually appears immediately and the best choices are evident.”
