Ridge, New York is a beautiful rural area in Suffolk County surrounded by many acres of woodland and beautiful scenery. Many people miss out on the beauty of Ridge because it is so small that it often gets lost on the map and many people haven’t even heard of it. Ridge Park is located in the center of Ridge on Middle Country Road and is a great playground for children of all ages. Ridge prides itself in its spectacular events put on for the children of the community throughout the year. Santa comes to visit the park in December and a campfire is set up for the children to enjoy hot chocolate and a quick chat with Santa. In the spring, the Easter Bunny makes an appearance and a huge Easter Egg hunt is held for children to search for treats all around the playground.
Fireman’s Memorial Park, also located on Middle Country Road, is a fun and educational place to visit. A great day can be spent with children playing on the playground, watching a baseball game on one of the three baseball diamonds or visiting the Brookhaven Volunteer Firefighters Museum. The Museum is free of charge and offers many antique fire trucks and artifacts with tours available. There is also a large covered area with a playground, open field and small kitchen with barbeque equipment available for rental for those seeking to hold an outdoor birthday party.
Looking for fall fun for the whole family? Kaufolds Country Farm on Middle Country Road is the place to be! Kaufolds is one of the most popular pumpkin picking farms on Long Island and has been in operation for 28 years. A full day can be spent at Kaufolds enjoying activities such as pumpkin picking, corn maze, hay rides, pony rides, corn cannon, jump houses, petting zoo and so much more.
One of the most popular attractions in Ridge is The Brookhaven National Laboratory where families can visit for free every Sunday over the summer. There is a superb children’s museum in the lab where kids can explore the world of science hands-on and participate in science experiments.
Longwood Public Library is on the border of Ridge and Middle Island on the same road as Fireman’s Memorial Park. The library offers many free programs for children of all ages as well as for adults. The programs are available all year long and include movie day, art classes, story time, summer carnivals, petting zoo and more. The library also offers a reading club in the summer and winter in which children can read weekly to earn prizes.
Pizza lovers should visit Alfredos Pizzeria, a well know Italian Restaurant in town. The venue is known for serving delicious authentic Italian food and of course the best pizza in town.
If the family is looking for a sweet treat, Hollywood Sweets is located right down the road. The store makes many flavors of delicious homemade ice cream, yogurt and sherbet. Enjoy treats in a 1950’s style ice cream shop with red trimmed bar stools and old time shows such as I Love Lucy on the TV. This is a great place for a play date or a family time out.
