Things to Do this Weekend on Long Island with Kids 12/8-12/9

For many families, this weekend marks the true beginning of the holidays with the celebration of Hanukkah. We wish those celebrating a very Happy Eight Days of Lights! We have lots of things to do this weekend on Long Island with kids. Most of our activities bring us indoors for some seasonal productions. Bridgehampton – Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) “Lego Club”
Children can construct works of art using thousands of Legos (donations of gently used Lego accepted).

Garden City – The Cupcake Corner “Children’s Crafts”
At this event, kids can work on a craft and there’s a different one each week. Craft takes anywhere from 15-45 minutes to complete depending upon the age of the child. No purchase necessary.

Garden City – Long Island Children’s Museum “Festival of Lights”
Celebrate the holiday of Hanukkah by learning about the history and traditions of this holiday of lights. Make your own hand-painted menorah to light each and every year (non denominational – all are welcome).

Garden City – Long Island Children’s Museum “Circus Renaldo”
Come see the famous (or is it infamous?) Renaldo the Clown, better known as the Remarkable Renaldo. Watch him perform pranks, circus tricks and magic all in an act full of humor.

Melville  -Newsday Headquarters “Newsday Holiday Lights”
Bethpage Federal Credit Union and Lord & Taylor have teamed up to create a Winter Wonderland for families to enjoy. This 2nd annual festival of lights features displays, carnival games, photos with Santa, festive houses offering treats and a full-size ice skating rink. $1 from every ticket goes to Newsday charities like the “Help-a-Family Campaign.”

Northport – John W. Engeman Theater “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”
It just wouldn’t be Christmas without the beloved reindeer. Let the ambitious reindeer prove to us all that everyone is special in their own magical way and why he is the most famous reindeer of all.

Westbury - NYCB Theatre at Westbury “Max & Ruby: Nutcracker”
In a musical production featuring Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite,  Bunny Max and his big sister, Ruby, are all set to enjoy the famous Nutcracker ballet with their grandmother. A blizzard keeps them from seeing the show but grandma lights up their day by letting them open one special gift each.
