OnBuzz™ and the Film Society of Lincoln Center have announced the first Reach for the Stars Aspiring Filmmakers Contest for teens, a national contest to determine the best micromovies produced on new media devices by young filmmakers ages 13 to 17. The winners of the contest will be announced at an October 13 red carpet awards ceremony as a featured part of this year’s celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the New York Film Festival.
Developed by OnBuzz™ in cooperation with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the Reach for the Stars contest is designed to demonstrate the convergence of technology and entertainment, and to highlight and encourage a new form of rapid filmmaking that is being produced by young people with smart phones, tablets and other media devices for distribution via social networks and the Internet.
The contest is the first in a series of efforts by OnBuzz™ to explore the evolution of technology and entertainment. The theme of this initial contest is how family and friends can connect through mobile devices and social networks to share powerful, uplifting and encouraging entertainment in a buzzworthy way.
The contest began with the acceptance of entries on September 25th and will run until October 6th, when the top 10 semi-finalists will be determined by the most popular videos. Teens are eligible to enter original 3-minute short videos shot on a mobile device. All contestants are required to meet all contest rules and regulations to qualify for entry, and all eligible videos will be posted on the OnBuzz™ website for viewing and voting: www.OnBuzz.com.
The panel of judges will then choose the top five finalists based on the following criteria: 25% creativity and originality, 25% overall quality and appearance of videos, 25% relevance to the family and connectivity contest theme and 25% to the total number of views of the video. The top five finalist film winners, along with two family members, will be given a free trip to New York City for the October 13th red carpet award ceremony at 4:00 pm in the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center at the 50th Anniversary of the New York Film Festival. Each finalist will premier their film in front of 90 distinguished guests made up of movie producers, media executives, business leaders and media.
