Fashion Retailer Towne Opens in Huntington Village – Interview with Owner Sally Russo

Ask moms what happened to their wardrobes after having a baby, and many will admit they lost a bit of their fashion mojo after the little one came. It wasn’t that they didn’t care about how they looked, it’s just that between feedings, lack of sleep and increased expenses, stylish clothes took a back seat. It doesn’t have to be that way, as now there’s a new place for Long Island moms to get their fashion sense back.

With the help of clothing retailer Towne, moms and non-moms alike can rejoice about this family-owned store that’s bringing an affordable dash of Manhattan style to Long Island. During a visit with owner Sally Russo, Long Island Mamas Network previewed her merchandise and learned about her vision for Towne which opens on October 31.

The elegant and stylish store is located in the heart of Huntington Village nestled between Scentsational fragrance shop and Ariana Restaurant. Russo reveals, “Towne offers contemporary clothing and accessories that provide a New York City edge for sophisticated women of all ages to connect to the fashion world in an affordable way. Almost all merchandise retails for less than $100.”

Offerings include casual and dressy outfits for day and night, outerwear and accessories like scarves, clutches, jewelry, hats, gloves and bags.

“Everything will have my label,” says Russo. “My clothes offer something for any body type or lifestyle.”

Specialization in customer service makes Russo stand out: “I’ve always provided one-on-one styling and personalization. In my prior stores, I knew customers by name. It was like a family atmosphere. They invited me to their weddings, christenings, and I became friends with many of them.”

Russo’s experience stems from her 25 years working in the women’s clothing business.  She states, “I had a store in Brooklyn for 17 years called Threadz, and it was pretty successful. We opened a men’s store as well on the same block years after we perfected our women’s business.” After that, she worked as a contemporary buyer for the clothing retailer Lester’s.

She opened Towne in Huntington because her whole family lives here. They’ll be helping out at her store, too. She states, “I feel connected to the community. Huntington is also like the nucleus of Long Island.”

Huntington is indeed a family affair as her niece, Dena Fenza, recently opened the restaurant Two Blondes and a Stove a few blocks away. The Long Island Mamas Network had interviewed Fenza, a Huntington mom of three, a few weeks ago. Read the review here.
