The statistics are sobering. According to the AT&T Wireless Survey, 100,000+ crashes a year involve drivers who are texting, 75% of teens say texting and driving is “common” among their friends and texting drivers are 23 times more likely to be in an accident.
AT&T’s #ItCanWait campaign seeks to get teens involved by joining the movement. Go to www.itcanwait.org and take the pledge to never text and drive.
Teens and families can check out the #ItCanWait campaign first hand at venues nationwide holding the American Idol concert tour. Teens can participate in “It Can Wait” activities that will be available during the concert.
Long Island Mamas will be live tweeting about the #ItCanWait activities at the American Idol concert in Nassau Coliseum tomorrow, August 22, 2012. Follow us on Twitter: @L_i_mamas.
Still think accidents only happen to other people who text and drive? View AT&T’s #ItCanWait video on YouTube to hear from young people who use to think the same thing until it happened to them. It’s an eye-opening documentary (approximately 10 minutes long).
Take the pledge today to never text and drive!
