4th of July Day Trip on Long Island

Independence Day is a federal holiday celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.  Looking for a fun way to spend the the 4th of July?  Use this day trip planner to get the most out of this holiday. Dress up in red, white, and blue and head out to a few or all of these events to create your own fun filled holiday road trip around Long Island.

 

Start the day by heading out with the family to watch the Port Jefferson Fourth of July Parade from 10 am to noon. This fun filled parade is sponsored by the Port Jefferson Fire Department.

Next head over for an amazing time at the Old Fashioned Independence Day at Sagamore Hill, also known as Theodore Roosevelt’s “Summer White House.” Stop by between 11 am to 4 pm to see an exciting Rough Riders reenactment, listen to a band, hear “President Theodore Roosevelt” speak and much more.

Spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing on the beach.  Bring some shovels and pails so the kids can pass the time building a sand castle or two and cool off in the water. There is no better way to end the day by viewing a Grucci Fireworks Display. Head over to either the Stars Over Montauk or the Brookhaven Star Spangled Blast to see an amazing display. Be sure to call ahead for the anticipated starting time, although it is best to beat the crowd and arrive early as these places fill up early.
