Things to Do on Long Island this Weekend with Kids 6/9 & 6/10

Heading out to the beach might be on the kids’ agenda, but if the weather doesn’t hold up, families will need to find other fun things to do on Long Island this weekend with kids. We’ve rounded up theater performances, gardening events as well as many craft activities. This weekend is all about getting moving, staying active, and being an involved learner. Don’t forget to celebrate National Outdoor Day on Saturday! 


Bridgehampton – Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) “Lego Club”
Children can construct works of art using thousands of Legos (donations of gently used Lego accepted)

Bridgehampton – Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) “The Art of Clay”
Learn all about working with clay from summer instructor, Danielle. This introduction to clay even teaches you how to liven up your finished product with color!

Freeport (Freeport Harbor) - Captain Lou’s Fleet Harbor Seal Cruise”
Families can take a naturalist-guided tour to learn about the behaviors of Harbor seals as well as other marine life in Hempstead Bay. Sponsored by the Riverhead Foundation.
When: Saturday, 6/9 and Sunday 6/10, both days from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM with boarding at 12:30 PM. Reservations required.

Garden City – Long Island Children’s Museum “Blues Clues: The Most Spectacular Place”  via Plaza Theatrical Productions
Based on the Nickelodean popular show “Blue’s Clue’s,” this live performance takes viewers on a journey with Blue and his pal, Steve, as they look for a special place. With fairy tale characters, creatures from outer space, and loads of adventure, Blue will learn there’s no better place than home.

Garden City – Long Island Children’s Museum “Garden of Hope”
Children will have a chance to be part of creating a place to cheer, greet and welcome people. Create a “Garden of Hope” by decorating and adding a special message to a personally designed flower.

Garden City – Long Island Children’s Museum “Messy Afternoons”
Come play with Play-doh, paint, and slime. Have fun creating a masterpiece at this wonderful children’s museum.

GreenlawnSt. Francis of Assist Church “St. Francis Festival”
Enjoy a day of rides, games, food, raffles, and fun at this summer festival. Vendors and craft tables will be on hand for families to peruse and  purchase keepsakes. The Festival began June 7th, but runs throughout the weekend.

Old Westbury - Old Westbury Gardens “Gardening Event”
Celebrate National “Get Outdoors” Day as well as the “Let’s Move” program. Have what it takes to be a gardener extraordinaire? For green thumb, this is the perfect event to participate in! It offers a balance of fitness and gardening, a fun afternoon filled with activities in one of Long Island’s premier garden settings.
