Midshore Mothers’ Center – Run for Moms, By Moms

Tucked into a pretty residential neighborhood in Massapequa, the Midshore Mothers’ Center is a non-profit organization “run for moms, by moms.” Moms are able to socialize and explore their interests while their children do the same.
The Midshore Mothers’ Center takes up a handful of rooms rented from Our Lady of Lourdes church. Though they lease space from a church, there is no religious affiliation; families from all backgrounds are welcome.

Mothers have opportunities to hone a skill or discover a new hobby. Everything from scrapbooking and yoga to book clubs (one during the day, another at night) are offered. Childcare is available while moms attend classes, and many find it a relief to know their child is nearby. If a class desired isn’t offered or a mom wants to get more involved, there are lots of opportunities to chair a committee or start a group.

Children have plenty of options to keep themselves busy. Classes for kids include Music & Me, Daddy & Me T-ball, and Art. It’s unlikely that a child of any age will be bored here.

The Midshore Mothers’ Center provides lower-cost Mommy and Me classes, something parents really appreciate. There are also many options for discussion groups – similar to a Professional Development program for parents, the groups give them a chance to talk and share ideas in a structured setting. All Midshore Mothers’ Center newbies must take an “entry” class before enrolling in groups. The introductory class reviews how their groups work. The facilitators themselves are trained to ensure that the groups run smoothly.

The Center provides many opportunities for fun. They recently hosted “Mom’s Night Out” which featured an overnight stay at the Garden City Hotel. There are parties for members and other options for adult mingling (remember those days?).

Annual membership is $40, plus the cost of whatever workshop or class a parent attends. If interested in joining, please contact them via the information below.
