Massapequa, located on the South Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, offers many different indoor and outdoor activities for families to take part in. It is the perfect place to enjoy many conveniently located beaches, parks. On days where the weather might seem a little dreary, Massapequa offers several indoor escapes as well.
Massapequa’s very own Florence Avenue Beach is a small, private beach hidden in the heart of a residential neighborhood. It’s perfect for children as there is barely a walk from the parking lot and includes a bathroom, park, and the bay. You can purchase a pass to Town of Oyster Bay beaches, which includes admission to Florence Avenue.
Tobay Beach is another beach minutes from Massapequa and is also a private beach for Town of Oyster Bay residents. At Tobay, families have the option of relaxing by the bay or the ocean. The area recently opened two new restaurants, The Seafood Shack which offers a variety of seafood and other delicious choices, and The Salsa Shack for those seeking Mexican cuisine. Both provide the perfect atmospheres to enjoy lunch or dinner with an ocean view.
Not a beach person? No worries, Massapequa’s parks have plenty to offer that won’t involve cleaning the sand off kids and the car. John J. Burns Park includes soccer, lacrosse, football, and baseball fields. It also has a paved path for walking or running, a boat dock, picnic tables, concert stage, and a playground for the kids.
Just a few blocks away is Marjorie Post Park located at the intersection between Unqua Road and Merrick Road in Massapequa. Marjorie Post Park includes various playgrounds and tennis, basketball, and handball courts. It even has a swimming pool and picnic area where families can grill and sit on the benches to enjoy a meal. Looking for a great nursery school? You’ve found it! Town of Oyster Bay has their very own pre-school program located in Marjorie Post Park.
Another great park that hosts little league tournaments is Brady Park in Massapequa Park. Brady Park provides tons of fun for a day out. Families can play horseshoes or shuffleboard, and it also had a playground, picnic area, and stage for local events.
If families are looking to stay indoors, stop by and shop at Westfield Sunrise Mall. The mall includes an indoor children’s play area, food court, and plenty of shopping. Another place that is great for a rainy day is Massapequa Bowl. The bowling alley is located at 4235 Merrick Road.
Looking for the perfect place to host your child’s next birthday party? United Skates of America is located on Hicksville Road in Seaford right on the border of Massapequa. United Skates is an indoor roller rink where children can skate around to music, play games for prizes and eat pizza, cake, and other snacks.
Krisch’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlour is family owned and operated. This traditional, old fashioned style restaurant is a fantastic place to enjoy dinner with the family. Don’t forget to save room for dessert. Kirsch’s Restaurant is famous for its homemade ice cream sundaes and shakes.
Massapequa is an ideal place to live. Families have the option of going forty minutes west to enjoy the bright lights of Broadway or forty minutes east to pick their own fruit or grab a bottle of wine at a local vineyard. It is a beautiful place filled with a lot to do.
