Fink’s Country Farm is located on Route 25, in Wading River. Fink’s has been owned and operated by the Fink family for over 50 years. When we spoke to current owner and operator, Michelle Fink, she said she never imagined herself being a farmer.
She went from having long nails, wearing lots of jewelry and high heels to waking up at dawn, pulling vegetables and taking care of farm machinery. She loves her new way of life and agrees that you don’t run a farm for the money. The Finks work very hard to bring Long Islanders fresh produce, homemade pies as well as flowers and plants. Mama Fink’s homemade pies were recognized as being part of the “Ten Best Long Island Pies” list.
With a farm stand that is opened from Late March to December 31st, Fink’s has lots to offer. Not only do they sell fresh fruits and veggies, but they offer many home, garden, and yard decor items. It’s a perfect place for all of anyone’s Mother’s and Father’s Day needs. They say they receive a lot of “cemetery traffic” as they are located right down the road from Calverton National Cemetery. They sell mementos, candles, homegrown plants and flowers as well as novelty items. Although they don’t raise bees, they sell local harvested honey, make their own jams, applesauce and even sell fresh eggs (when available). They are not an organic farm-per say, but use light spraying techniques and only when necessary. They do not sell anything they themselves would not eat. All of the produce is picked fresh every single day.
Although they do have many animals as pets including horses, cows, pigs, donkeys, goats and chickens, they aren’t a petting farm per say. The farmers told us that Fink’s is a “working farm” with heavy machinery around all the time. They do host parties, but do so soley in the fall. Mrs. Fink did say that when asked to see the animals, families are welcome to visit and even pet the farm friends.
In the fall Fink’s Farm hosts their annual fall festival including corn maze, hay rides and U pick pumpkins.
Fink’s Farm is a wholly family run working farm. Extended family aids in babysitting, working the register, baking, maintaining farm equipment and the business management. In addition, Fink’s gladly accepts the volunteer help of friends, and close neighbors to assist in the abundance of work needing to get done on the farm.
Fink’s Country Farm opens for 2012 on Thursday, March 29th. Visit to fulfill Easter needs such as palm crosses, flower baskets, and homemade goodies.
