Buying local produce supports the local economy and offers families fresh produce. The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York (NOFA-NY) is promoting its Local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project which highlights regional food, publicizes local CSAs, and encourages consumers to enroll in a CSA near them.
The next CSA fair in Long Island will take place at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington on March 31st. At this FREE event, participants can learn the basics such as share price, growing season, and varieties of vegetables. Through CSA, residents can become a shareholder in a local farm by making an upfront investment (details to be discussed at the fair) to receive a season’s worth of healthy fresh local produce each week. Families can meet local farmers at the fair and sign up for a 2012 share.
The Huntington event will include a cooking demonstration by Bhavani Jaroff of iEatGreen and free movies: The Real Dirt on Farmer John at 10:15 am and Farming the Future: Farm Life on LI at 11:45 am.
