CMEE-Children’s Museum of the East End

The CMEE, Children’s Museum of the East End,  is one of our favorite places to visit. This museum is a treasure trove of fun for both small children and school-age kids alike. There is so much to do, explore and learn at CMEE, every time is as fun as the first time.

CMEE is sub-divided into mini themed rooms that encourage dramatic play, investigation and socialization. Some of our favorites include the musical instrument station, complete with instruments from natural materials, a large “drive able” fire engine, and a pirate ship with a lookout tower and authentic “plank”.

There’s a large playroom for toddlers and young preschoolers. This room has soft play mats, bars to climb, bikes to ride and balls to bounce. It is a lot of fun to watch the children “let loose”. It becomes quite crowded on weekends, so we often skip it unless there’s plenty of space. (socks required for all, no shoes)

If you need a break from the excitement of the day, you can sit and read one of the many stories in the  library nook. There’s a dress up room for your little one to try on and wear one of the many costumes. (They are free to wear them around the museum.)

There’s a grocery market, with working registers, shopping baskets, and food to organize. We love to spend time in the “diner” and order a meal that can be cooked in the kitchen.

CMEE has a large Lego room, coloring station and even a small area for young babies, including bouncers, exersaucers, and activity mats.

There’s an outdoor space with plenty more to explore and learn or just relax in the wooded setting.

Every day there’s a new activity or project as you enter the museum. Whether it’s a clay activity, bubble experiment or holiday craft, as soon as you walk in, your children will be engaged. We love to visit the pet bunny as we ride in the mini vintage cars.

CMEE offers a few snacks, but we bring our lunch and eat outside. CMEE also hosts a wide variety of events, classes and lectures. Our favorites include Waffle Day and Pizza and Jammies book parties. There’s so much for the whole family, even lectures for new moms and expectant parents. It’s a great place for a birthday party or family outing. Located in the quaint town of Bridgehampton, you’ll find plenty of spots to grab a bite, shop, or treat yourself to some homemade ice cream.

Clean! bathrooms equipped with changing stations and water fountains. Strollers are allowed but some spaces are tight and we found wearing a young baby makes it much easier to navigate and enjoy yourself.

The CMEE calendar is always filled with unique, exciting things to do. It is worth the drive, there’s really no other place quite like the CMEE!

Love this article! I plan to visit the museum soon! There are so many things on the island to truly enrich our children. I have been there a few years ago with my older boys and look forward to going again. I have to make a day of it but it is well worth it! Thanks for the info and reminding me that it is there!
