Weekend Pick: Peter & the Wolf in Great Neck

by Maytal Wichman

This Sunday, treat your kids (and yourself) to a performance of the classic tale of Peter & the Wolf. For a reasonable price you can expose your children to the world of classical music and melodic instruments as they hear the popular children’s story. The show is being performed this Sunday at 2pm at the Great Neck South Middle School auditorium.

Written in 1936 by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, Peter & the Wolf tells the tale of a young boy who decides to go hunting for the wolf that’s been prowling around the forest clearing. Along the way, he is joined by his friends the bird, the duck and the cat. When the wolf makes a surprise appearance, Peter comes up with a clever plan.

A dynamic actor recounts the tale, while a woodwind quintet accompanies him. This show will allow children to use their imaginations to “see” the drama, as the music lets the story unfold.
