This scenic spray-ground at the Venetian Shores Park is located on a bay front beach in Lindenhurst. The spray-ground is highlighted with some whimsical touches like dumping buckets, water cannons, a spraying whale and turtle to climb on and a giant octopus that sprays water in all directions, among others. The play surface here is a soft composite that grips really well. Still, water shoes are recommended.
Seating is available around the edge of the spray ground and some lounge chairs are provided, however we suggest that you bring your own because the park can get pretty crowded, but there is plenty of room for everyone. Strollers are allowed on deck. There is NO SHADE in spray area but you can provide your own if you bring an umbrella and stand it up in the net fencing that lines the park. Since the whole area is fenced in, you can let your kids wander. Lifeguards do monitor the spray area and are positioned at the entrance. My kids had buckets of their own to fill and dump.
In case you need a break from all that wet fun, there are two Playgrounds available: one on the sand, located right outside the fence of the spray park and it is not shaded; the other playground had a soft surface and ample shade on equipment and is located just across the parking lot.
After playing in the falling water or on the playgrounds a nice dip in the ocean might be the best remedy; you can walk right onto the beach and take a dip in the Great South Bay. The sand and water are rocky (so I suggest water shoes or sandals), but there are no waves– so my kids ages 9, 5, and 4 were comfortable walking right into the water up to their chins. A fresh water shower stand and foot shower are located right outside the entrance to the spray park to clean off before returning.
Picnic tables are available under an awning or in the sun. I brought a small cooler and no one gave us a problem. There is a snack bar concession, as well as large public restrooms, which had a baby changing station.
The Venetian Shores Spray ground is a waterfront oasis of fun for those hot summer days. It is highly recommended and well worth the $15 to park. The parking lot is so close you can go to and from your car with ease. There is a first aid station located right next to the spray park. Basketball and tennis courts, softball field, fishing pier, boat ramp, food, music, playground, beach and spray park are all the amenities that this park has to offer.
Admission is free for residents of the Town of Babylon, but for $15 on weekdays and $25 (Friday-Sunday), anyone can park there and use the facilities. You can park on the street and walk into Venetian Shores, but you will be parking in front of someone’s house, so it depends on your comfort level. Be aware that there are also some areas where parking on the street is prohibited.
