Le Play Cafe in Bellmore, an 8 month old large 2000 square foot playspace, offers so many things to keep children ages 6 months to 6 years engaged. With a climbing structure and a slide, soft play blocks, a pirate boat, little ride on vehicles, a stage with two racks of costumes and huge mirror, a little castle, tables filled with puzzles, a kitchen, play food and an ice cream stand,– your kid will NOT turn to you and whine, “I’m bored”. Plus moms and caregivers also have an area where they can hang out and grab a cup of coffee or a snack and watch their kids have a blast!
We fell in love with Le Play Cafe as soon as we walked through the doors. Once we spied all the fabulous toys, slides, and dress up materials in the play area, my 3 1/2 year old daughter and almost 6 year old son’s eyes lit up. In the space of two hours, they got to be Spiderman, Optimus Prime, a firefighter, a construction worker, Iron Man, veterinarian, and Superman.
This spotless play place is owned by Katrina Wells, mom to a 3 and 5 year old. She created Le Play Cafe so BOTH kids and growns-ups could get out of the house and be equally happy and comfortable.
There is always a staff person in the children’s play area interacting and keeping an eye on the children. While this isn’t a drop off daycare, you can grab a snack or go to the bathroom and know that your kids are being supervised. On the day we were there, staff member Karen was in the children’s area. She was bright and friendly and made sure she knew all the children’s names and helped them.
If a child knocked a toy over or left it on the floor, she had it picked up within seconds. When I tried to pick something up (as moms, it’s just what we do), she shooed me away and told me to relax. The emphasis at Le Play Cafe is for the kids and parents to enjoy themselves — if the kids make a mess, it’s fine (and they’ll take care of the cleanup). They had a place to put toys that needed to be disinfected (my 1 year old shoved a plastic hammer in his mouth, so I dropped it in that bucket).
I was pleased to see that there was so much for babies (my son is crawling and cruising, but not walking yet). Linda was cognizant of the baby and cautioned other children (who were running near him) to be careful.
The cafe area has tables and comfy chairs, as well as snacks, beverages, and delicious smelling coffee for purchase (plus wifi!!). There’s a private room (which can hold birthday parties (which are ultra reasonable pricewise) or meetings and in the back is a large, squishy couch (if you’d like to nurse comfortably) and a large bathroom with a changing table and double step stool so little kids can reach the sink. DON’T FORGET SOCKS! Grown-ups and kids will not be allowed in the play area without them! If you forget socks for your kids, you can purchase a pair for $2.
Le Play Cafe also sells puzzles and sets from Melissa and Doug.
They run specials on their facebook page – so check them out before you visit!
